Testimony Continues in Cafe Murder Trial

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Six witnesses in the Aragast cafe murder trial were interrogated in court on Monday.

Some of the witnesses interrogated were not physically there when the murder occurred–for example cafe waitress Bella Krikorian–who served Poghos Poghossian’s (the victim) table–who later identified the corpse found in the cafe’s restroom as one of her clients.

Ararat Manvelian–another employee of the cafe–heard that someone suffered a heart attack in the cafe and died.

Journalist Voskan Mamikonian spoke about the incident in more detail. He was seated at the next table when he heard female voices shouting "dead!"

He said he did not notice any familiar faces in the brawl near the staircase–nor did he see defendant Aghamal Haroutiunian. During the preliminary investigation–the witness said that the people sitting at the next table were called but he did not pay attention to the person who called them into the restroom–because–he said–he did not notice anything out of the ordinary.

All three patrons sitting at the next table got up and walked toward the staircase leading to the street. (He did not tell the law enforcement authorities that he saw them walking toward the staircase in his testimony in court.)

The witness said that his testimony from the preliminary investigation–was more accurate because not much time had passed since when he gave the testimony then.
