Kocharian Invites Niazov to Armenia

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)– Armenia’s President Robert Kocharian had a telephone conversation with the President of Turkmen’stan Saparmurat Niyazov on Thursday.

Both sides agreed that they are confident in the bilateral relations between their countries will continue to be cooperative and profitable.

According to the president’s public relations department–the settlement and mutual settlement on the deliveries of natural gas in 2001–due to which the decision of the working group’s establishment is made–was discussed.

Armenian representatives on these issues will hold negotiations in Ashghabad soon.

Niyazov thanked Kocharian for the attention and care–the Armenian government displayed in the preservation of ancient Turkem cultural monumen’s found in Armenia.

The leaders of the two countries agreed to strengthen cultural ties between their peoples–and instructed their ambassadors to Ashghabad and Yerevan to work toward this goal immediately.

Kocharian invited the President of Turkmen’stan to make an official visit to Armenia–who graciously accepted the invitation.

The date will be agreed through diplomatic contacts at a later date.

The two sides agreed to prepare a new treaty on friendship and cooperation when the president comes to Yerevan.

The presidents concluded their telephone conversation by bidding welfare and successes for the people of Armenia and Turkmen’stan.
