Local Chapters make key endorsement in LA City Council District 2 Race NORTH HOLLYWOOD–The Armenian National Committee East San Fernando Valley and Crescenta Valley made a key endorsement in the race for the 2nd District Los Angeles City Council seat on Wednesday by throwing their support behind long time Valley activist Wendy Greuel. The East San Fernando Valley and Crescenta Valley chapter–which represent the communities east of the 405 Freeway–and the foothills (including Tujunga and the surrounding areas)–respectively made their decision after meetings with candidates in the race for the LA City Council seat.
Greuel–a community affairs director with SKG Dreamworks–received the endorsement of the ANC Chapters based on her long time record of community activism and cooperation with the local Armenian community. Greg Keosian and Sako Chakian of the East San Fernando Valley and Crescenta Valley ANC Chapters discussed the key issues impacting the growing Armenian community in the 2nd District such as adequate senior housing–Valley secession–commemoration of the Armenian Genocide–promotion and assistance for small businesses and overall quality of life.
Previously–Wendy served as the Field Operations Officer for Southern California for the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) where she championed projects offering opportunities for homeownership–job creation–economic development–and social services for the less fortunate. She was instrumental in coordinating HUD’s 1994 Northridge earthquake emergency response and recovery programs.
"Wendy has worked with us on a number of local issues–especially relating to racial tension problems in local high school," said Sako Chakian–Chairperson of the Crescenta Valley ANC. "She’s been at all the neighborhood council meetings and shows us that she cares about the quality of life in the 2nd District. We’re confident that after getting elected Wendy will continue to work closely with our organization for the overall betterment of our community."
The Special Election for the 2nd District Council seat will be held in conjunction with the California State Primaries on March 5th–2002. For more information on the Wendy Greuel for City Council Campaign or to volunteer–contact the campaign offices at (818) 505-9344.
