Uruguay Lawmakers Mark Genocide Anniversary

MONTEVIDEO–Uruguay–For the third year in a row–the Uruguay National Assembly hosted a Genocide commemoration on April 23 in its palatial parliament building–with representatives expressing their unrelenting support for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. During the event–Armenian Revolutionary Federation member Mario Nalbandian addressed the more than 1000 community who had joined the lawmakers in this solemn ceremony.

The Uruguay Post-Telegraph and Telephone ministry also unveiled stamps dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

This commemorative event was organized by the Armenian National Committee of South America and the Uruguay Prelacy Executive Council.

Uruguay Parliament Speaker was the first to address the crowd–at which time he expressed his solidarity with the ANC and urged the international community to follow the precedent set by his country to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

In his remarks–ARF Bureau member Mario Nalbandian expressed gratitude to the government and people of Uruguay for the unwavering support toward the Armenian Cause and continued assistance toward the realization of Armenia’s’ national aspirations.
