Progressive Party of Slovakia to Struggle for Genocide Recognition

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–After visiting Armenia in April–a delegation of Slovakian parliamentarians decided to submit the issue of recognizing the Armenian Genocide to their Parliament for discussion during the next session. The representatives of the Progressive Party of Slovakia are ready to wage a serious struggle in the Slovakian Parliament for the recognition of the Genocide.

Elections are expected in Slovakia in September and according to the statistical forecasts–the number of votes received by this party may exceed the present coalition government’s and the party may resume the leadership of the country. The activities of the party during the pre-election struggle directed at the recognition of the Armenian Genocide may heighten their reputation.

The Progressive Party of Slovakia also expects a correct evaluation of their step by the Armenian lobby in the West. During the meetings held between the party leaders and the representatives of the Armenian lobby in Slovakia–an agreement was reached on the assistance of the Slovakian Diaspora in solving the problem of the Armenian Genocide in Europe and especially in the United States. There are over 5 million Slovakians living abroad–and the Slovakian lobby is especially well represented in US Congress.
