ICRC Continues Restoration of Healthcare System in Karabakh

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) continues the restoration works in medical centers in the Hadrut region of Nagorno Karabakh. The restored medical center of Azokh was inaugurated on May 4.

The medical centers of Tumi–Taghaser–Kemrakuch–Aknaghbyur–Kyuratagh and Ukhtadzor opened in March–and the medical center of Tsamdzor village opened in April. The medical centers that were damaged as a result of the armed conflict are also included in the program.

The program started in 1998–and since that time the ICRC has restored 63 medical centers in different regions of Karabakh. Restoration works in another 3 medical centers are supposed to finish in summer. Besides the restoration works–ICRC will also provide the centers with the necessary furniture–medical equipment and medicine.

The ICRC elementary medical aid program–being implemented together with the Nagorno Karabakh health care ministry–includes 58,000 people. The program aims at reducing the main reasons of diseases among the population and improving the substructure of the medical system.

Besides the restoration works–the program also organizes training courses for the medical staff–in which about 200 doctors and nurses have already participated. Within the framework of the program–a health care information system was worked out–which will provide precise statistic analyses of the health care situation in Nagorno Karabakh.
