ARF Member Wins Parliament Election

GYUMRI (Noyan Tapan)–The by-elections to the Armenian National Assembly were held in Electoral District N67 of the Shirak region on May 19.

The elections were appointed in connection with Parliament Member Samvel Avetisian’s resigning his parliamentary mandate ahead of schedule after being appointed Armenian Deputy Minister of Agriculture.

Four candidates participated in the elections for an member of parliament mandate: Artur Kirakosian and Gegham Hakobian had their candidatures nominated upon civil initiative–the ARF party nominated the candidature of Hakob Matilian–and the Democratic Fatherland party nominated the candidature of Vardan Makeyan.

According to the Shirak Regional Electoral Commission–on the day before the elections–the total number of voters made 29,950 people in district N67.

This figure was expected to chang.

The aggregate number of voters specified by the administrations and registered in 26 polling stations of the indicated electoral district made 31,875 voters.

According to electoral commissions at polling stations–15,055 voters–or about 47 percent–participated in the elections.

According to preliminary data–Hakob Matilian has received the largest number of votes with 5,500.

Vardan Makeyan has received 4,217–Artur Kirakosian has received 3,085–and Gegham Hakobian as received 1,687 votes.

The preliminary results of the elections will be summed up at the May 20 sitting of the Shirak Regional Electoral Commission.
