ARS Sponsors Conference in Javakhk

AKHALKALAK (A-Info)–A three-day conference dedicated to the history and current situation in the mainly-Armenian populated region of Javakhk in south Georgia opened Wednesday in Akhalkalak. The conference is organized by the Armenian Studies Department of the Yerevan State University and is sponsored by the Armenian Relief Society.

The conference will encompass all facets of life in Javakhk and will include presentations on Javakhk’s cultural history–society–culture–literature–traditions and the church.

The conference–which has the participation of leading academicians–artists and historians–is the first of its kind to be held in Javakhk since the Sovietization of Javakhk [Georgia] in 1921.
