Hrazdan Plant Transfer to Russia to be Resolved Soon

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Secretary of the Russian Federation Council of Security Vladimir Rushailo reported during the May 29 press conference that Russia tries to contribute to Armenia as much as possible on the issues of overcoming the difficulties of socio-economic character. He mentioned that the indicated issues were discussed by an RF CS delegation during its official visit to Armenia and "in this respect certain positive steps are available."

Armenian Minister of Defense Serge Sargsian reported that within the framework of transferring property to Russia instead of paying off the Armenia’s state debt–the Russian side submitted concrete proposals on the occasion of purchasing the Hrazdan TPP. He mentioned that the sides came to an agreement and "the final decision on the issues will be presented in one-two weeks." According to Sargsian–during the visit of the Russian delegation the issue of power distributing companies wasn’t observed as the Russian side–in particular–the company "RJSC UES" didn’t say about its wish to purchase them. According to the minister–there were also no discussions on the occasion of other enterprises intended for transferring to the Russian side.

According to Sargsian–the issue of transferring the Zvartnots airport to trust management wasn’t discussed with Russia as–according to him–this agreement doesn’t contradict the interests of the Russian group of troops stationed in Armenia–or to the interests of the Military Forces of Armenia. According to him–if the Russian side–in particular–"Aeroflot," wished to participate in the process of privatization or the transferring of Zvartnots and "Armenian Airlines" to trust management–nobody would be against it. The minister gave an assurance that the problem connected with the protection of foreign borders of Armenia will not appear–which is carried out by Russian frontier guards at the airport.

The minister reported that there are no problems with the Russian side connected with the construction of the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline. "Nobody ever reproached Armenia and will reproach for the construction of this gas pipeline," said Serge Sargsian.
