Prime Ministers of Armenia and Georgia Discuss Situation in Southern Georgia

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The session of Council of leaders of CIS countries’ governmen’s started its work May 31 in Moscow at the "President Hotel." Armenian Prime Minister Andranik Margarian participated in the session. Before the session Minister Margarian met with Georgian State Minister Avtandil Jorbenadze. The state minister expressed gratitude to Margarian for aid provided to Georgia after the recent earthquake. The sides then referred to a number of issues of bilateral interest. Jorbenadze displayed a particular interest in the construction of Iran-Armenia gas pipe-line–stating that the possibility of Georgia’s support to this project–in case of its realization–will be discussed in his country. Georgian State Minister also inquired about the approaches of Armenia to the secure exploitation of Armenian nuclear power plant. Margarian said that the power plant acts securely and our country will consider issue on its closing only in case of having another energy sources.

The Armenian prime minister also stated the importance of Abkhazian rail-way’s putting in action. He also referred to the problems of Armenian community of Javakhk–suggesting Armenia’s support to the process of solving of economic and social issues of the region. At the end of the meeting–the ministers agreed to discuss and to solve the top priority issues by direct dialogue.

During the session of leaders of CIS countries’ governmen’s about 20 issues concerning the cooperation in the spheres of economy–health care–and science were discussed. The participants of the session paid great attention to the issues on CIS countries’ security. Particularly–the program on military cooperation–system of organization and realization of joint anti-terrorist events on CIS countries’ territory were approved. A decision was also approved to work out within 2003-2005 an interstate program on joint struggle against organized crime. The participants also approved a decision concerning the realization of actions directed towards CIS development.

During the meeting with reporters held after the session–the chairman of CIS Executive Committee Yuri Yarov–the prime ministers of Russian Federation–Kazakhstan and Georgia summed up the results of session.
