SI Adopts Resolution On Javakhk Karabakh

YEREVAN (ARF Press Service)–The Council of the Socialist International approved a resolution Saturday at its meeting in Casablanca regarding the current situation in south Caucasus–with a special emphasis on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the condition of Armenia’s in Javakhk. The resolution was presented by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation delegation at the meeting.

The resolution takes into consideration the growing focus on south Caucasus by the international political community–as well as the volatile state of affairs there–which threaten the security and stability in the region. The bill also calls for the imperative of rule of law–democracy and respect for human rights.

The resolution calls on the Socialist International–through its Central and Eastern European Committee and Peace–Democracy and Human Rights Committee–to closely monitor developmen’s in south Caucasus in order to assist in conflict resolution processes in the area–especially as it pertains to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict–in order to establish a just and equitable resolution there.

The resolution also calls on SI to extend its influence in the region to prevent unresolved issues from developing into full-fledged conflicts. Specifically–the measure asks for assistance to the international community–the Georgian government and non-governmental organizations operating in Georgia to resolve the socio-economic–cultural and political crisis plaguing the Armenian population of Samtskhe-Javakhetia.

"We would like to call attention to the Javakhk portion of the resolution–since it confirms the existence of multi-faceted problems in the region and pledges the SI’s positive involvement in the resolution of those issues," commented ARF representative to Socialist International–Bureau member Mario Nalbandian.
