Oskanian Hails Armenian Chinese Relations

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The contemporary stage of the Armenian-Chinese relations were discussed at the June 10 meeting of Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian and a delegation headed by Timur Davamat–the deputy chairman of the standing commission of the All-Chinese Assembly of people’s representatives of China. Minister Oskanian pointed out that there are no political disagreemen’s in Armenian-Chinese relations–moreover–Armenia gives much significance to relations with China–since there abundant possibilities of economic cooperation–which have not been fully used yet. Oskanian also accentuated that the countries cooperate quite successfully in different international organizations.

As the Foreign Ministry PR department informs–Davamat stated that large progress was fixed over the latest decade in the relations of the two countries–especially in the economic–scientific-technical and cultural spheres. The intellectual technical potential of Armenia–as well as the circumstance that China has a vast market–in Davamat’s opinion–open big prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation.

Timur Davamat–during his meeting with Armenia’s President Robert Kocharian–gave the warm regards of Xian Xemin–China’s head of state.

Positively evaluating the present-day state of the Armenian-Chinese relations–Kocharian stressed the great significance of the interparliamentary connections. The president wished China had its stable place in the regional processes–taking into account the economic potential and the weight of China in the world.

According to Davamat–China and Armenia are friend countries. Relations between the countries date back to historic past. "A new page was opened by establishing diplomatic relations 10 years ago–and today China has a good partner on behalf of Armenia," he stated. As the Chinese parliamentarian evaluated–the Armenian-Chinese cooperation develops swiftly and dynamically: "Not only political relations develop between the two countries. We constantly make progress in the economic–cultural–health care spheres."

Davamat introduced the economic situation of his country and the reforms that are being made–stressing the political stability of China. He said that his country will support the Armenia in the issue of the membership in the World Trade Organization.

In connection with the Karabakh problem–he said that China is for exceptionally peace settlement of the conflict and considers the dialogue between the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan necessary.
