Oskanian Cem Meeting Positively Evaluated By Both Sides

ISTANBUL (Armenpress)–Armenian and Turkish Foreign Ministers Vardan Oskanian and Ismail Cem met in Istanbul on June 25 within the framework of BSEC summit. During the meeting both sides re-confirmed their readiness to continue the principles of "trilateral format" started in Reykjavik.

The Turkish Hurriyet newspaper informs that the meeting which lasted for about 45 minutes was positively evaluated by both ministers. According to the newspaper–Azeri President Heydar Aliev during yesterday’s meeting with OSCE Minsk group co-chairmen expressed his support to the trilateral conversation started in Reykjavik and called on to continue it. Hurriyet also writes that the experts considered Oskanian-Cem meeting as a continuation of realization of principles of Reykjavik directed to the establishment of peace and stability in South Caucasus. Regarding this–Advisor of Azeri president Novruz Mamedov came forward with a statement that during both Oskanian-Cem and Aliev-Minsk group co-chairmen meetings issues concerning the organization of a meeting of Armenian and Azeri presidents were discussed. He refused to state the exact date and place of the two president’s meeting.

Hurriyet also reminded that the last time the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan were negotiating was in April of 2001 in the US.
