Again Turkey Clings to Preconditions

YEREVAN (Yerkir/RFE/RL)–Speaking at the the UN General Assembly session in New York on Friday–Turkish Foreign Minister Sukru Gurel accused Armenia of not complying with UN resolutions on Nagorno-Karabagh and demanded a withdrawal of Armenian forces from occupied Azerbaijani territories.

Gurel added that the Nagorno-Karabagh conflict is one of the obstacles to political stability and economic development in the region–while insisting the situation in Abkhazia be resolved on the basis of "Georgia’s sovereignty–independence and territorial integrity."

"Being an active member of the Minsk group–Turkey works for a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabagh conflict within the framework of OSCE. We initiated a tri-partied meeting among the ministers of foreign affairs of Armenia–Azerbaijan and Turkey in May," Turkish Foreign minister Sukru Gurel told the UN General Assembly on Friday.

According to the Anatolu news agency–Gurel–in response to journalists–said that Turkey would continue to bewilder Europe with its reforms.

"Europe did not expect Turkey to make such important reforms in a short period of time. We will continue to bewilder Europe with our reform process."
