ASSEMBLYMAN GARRETT PROMISES SUPPORT FOR CONGRESSIONAL INITIATIVES TO PROPERLY COMMEMORATE THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE
RIDGEFIELD–The Armenian National Committee (ANC) of New Jersey recently hosted a fund-raiser-reception for Scott Garrett–the Republican Congressional Candidate for the 5th District. The event took place at the home of Alex and Talar Sarafian in Cresskill–New Jersey.
During the event–community members discussed a wide range of issues with the candidate–including US aid to Armenia–Genocide recognition and education–self-determination for Nagorno Karabagh–etc. Garrett explained that these issues were close to his heart and that he would defend them when he got to Washington. Garrett further spoke of his appreciation for the ANC’s support during the primary–and asked for continued support in the upcoming General Election in November.
"The Armenian National Committee of New Jersey is excited to have developed an excellent working relationship with Assemblyman Garrett," stated ANC of New Jersey Chairperson–Kim Arzoumanian. "We look forward to continuing to work with him as he moves from the State Assembly to representing the 5th District."
Garrett–currently the senior Assemblyman from the 24th legislative district–had previously responded to the ANCA Congressional Candidate Questionnaire. He has continuously expressed support for Congressional initiatives and resolutions to commemorate the Armenian Genocide–US aid to strengthen Armenia’s independence–and continued developmental–as well as–humanitarian aid to Nagorno Karabagh.
The seat for the 5th Congressional district was vacated following the announcement that long-time Armenian American supporter–Representative Marge Roukema–would retire at the end of the 107th Congress. The 5th Congressional district is home to a sizable Armenian American community and several Armenian churches.
