Antelias Publishes Complete Works of Naregatsi

ANTELIAS–In continuing its cultural mission and in marking the 1000th anniversary of the prominent Armenian poet Krikor Naregatsi–the printing house of the Catholicosate of Cilicia has published the complete works of Naregatsi. Although Naregatsi’s masterpiece "Book of Lamentations" (Madyan Voghperkutian) and his other works have frequently been published in the past decades–a book featuring his complete works was unavailable.

The publication of the new 726-page Naregatsi volume was sponsored by the Armenian department of Lisbon-based Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation–with the immediate involvement of Executive director Dr. Zaven Ekavian.

Dedicated to the 1000th anniversary of Madyan Voghperkutian–the publication is the highlight of Armenian religious literature–and features other famous works of Naregatsi including ‘Treasures’ and ‘Sermons.’

The introduction of the book contains the Holy Encyclical of Catholicos Aram I declaring 2003 the year of Naregatsi’s Madyan Voghperkutian. The Catholicos stresses that in celebrating the anniversary–the personal and religious lives of mankind will be enriched and awakened by the light and hope coming from the book.

Materials were collected and edited at Mairavank Publishing house by Bishop Zareh Aznavorian. While preserving its original form–the works have been enhanced to be more accessible to the general public with explanations of biblical terms at the bottom of each page.

The current publication of Naregatsi’s complete works will be one of the milestones of Armenian culture–and evidence of the priceless services of the Holy See of Cilicia.

In honoring the 1000th anniversary of the "The Book of Lamentations" a silver coin was introduced and put into circulation by the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia on February 10. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Aram Khachaturian–the central bank also introduced a gold coin.
