Architect Varazdat Haroutunian Decorated

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–94-year-old renowned architect and academician Varazdat Haroutunian–an advocate for the preservation of Armenian architectural monumen’s–received the second highest award of the Armenian Apostolic Church–the Saints Sahag and Mesrob medal in Etchmiadzin on February 11. Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenia’s Karekin II–decorated Mr. Haroutunian.

Haroutunian’s efforts have resulted in the restoration and renovation of more than 50 monasteries–including the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin–St. Hripsime–St. Gayane–Geghard–and Khor Virab.

Members of the Brotherhood of Holy Etchmiadzin–members of Supreme Spiritual Council–famous scientists and artists attended the ceremony. In delivering congratulatory messages and words of appreciation–speakers stressed Haroutunian’s enduring activity and dedication to the church. "Your contribution is significant–and the pride of each Armenian," said His Holiness.

Haroutunian has also received the "St. Gregory the Illuminator" medal for his dedication to the church.
