United Body Meets on Genocide Commemoration

PASADENA–Earlier this year the three traditional Armenian political parties–the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF)–the Ramgavar Azadagan Party (ADL) and the Social Democratic Hunchagian Party (SDHP) informed the community about the formation of a united body to commemorate the 88th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

On this very occasion–the executive of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) Western region organized a meeting of the United Body to Commemorate the Armenian Genocide. Members met at the at the AGBU Pasadena Center on March 10.

Ara Aharonian made the opening remarks–and introduced the representatives of the body: Dr. Simon Simonian (AGBU)–Hovig Saliba (ARF)–Dr. Arshag Kazanjian (SDHP)–Panos Keshishian (ADL) Primate Vatche Hovsepian (Armenian Western Diocese)–Prelate Moushegh Mardirossian (Armenian Apostolic Church–Western Region)–John Matossian (Armenian Evangelical Church) and Ara Aroyan (Armenian Catholic Community). The Consul General of Armenia Valery Mkrtumian was also present.

On behalf of the AGBU–Dr. Simonian announced he was pleased that the AGBU Executive’s longtime project to work jointly with other organizations has become a reality.

ARF Western USA Central Committee representative Hovig Saliba stressed the necessity to develop civic responsibility–saying. "Now that we have an independent homeland that pursues the Armenian Case as a part of its foreign policy–the local community must mobilize all forces not only for this undertaking–but to also pursue other dominant issues."

Aharonian presented the activities of the twelve-member executive body–and called on all Armenia’s to actively participate in one of its seven committees in order to contribute to general efforts.
