Genocide Recognition Is A Political Issue Says Patriarch

YEREVAN (PanARMENIAN.Net)–The issue of Georgia’s formal recognition of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 is under the jurisdiction of the country’s political leadership said Patriarch of all Georgia Ilia II–visiting the Memorial to the victims of the Armenian Genocide "As a clergy of the Georgian people–I am not entitled to give advice on the issue–which is subject to the political decision making of temporal authorities," stressed visiting spiritual leader.

Presenting the aim of the Georgian patriarch’s visit–the Catholicos of All Armenia’s Karekin II said the Georgian leader is in Armenia to pass the respect and love of Georgians along to the nation and Armenian Apostolic church. "We together must draw a plan of cooperation to strengthen bilateral relations between our churches; at the present moment we both face the same difficulties. Only via joint efforts we will be able to overcome these difficulties," said Armenian Catholicos.
