Upcoming Proposal on Karabagh to Satisfy All


BAKU (Aztag–Armenpress)–The Baku-based "Echo" newspaper reported that the Russian co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Nikolai Gribkov–announced in Paris that he is committed to resolving the Nagorno-Karabagh conflict–and that the current proposal being prepared by the Minsk Group will satisfy all the parties involved.

The new document–Gribkov said–incorporates proposals by international mediators and includes only those that are acceptable to both sides.

"The Minsk Group co-Chairs are sure that the new proposals will be accepted unconditionally by both Armenian and Azeri presidents," said Gribkov–adding that though some disagreemen’s may arise–the new proposals are nevertheless formulated in a way to bring conflicting parties to an agreement.

Gribkov revealed that the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs will also meet with the president of Nagorno Karabagh Arkady Ghoukassian during their upcoming visit to the region.

Addressing protests from Baku concerning the planned Goukassian meeting–Gribkov noted that the Minsk Group Chairmen will also have talks with the head of Karabagh’s Azeri community.

"We do not give preference to anyone and do not think that the meeting with the leader of the Armenia’s in Karabagh will pose problems. On the contrary–we try serve all parties involved and tend to work out a common position," said Gribkov.

The Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Vilayet Guliev–disagreed with Gribkov.

In response to Gribkov’s announcement–the Foreign Minister told the Azeri press that the Minsk Group can only make suggestions–but that its desires can in no way can affect the decisions of the parties.

Guliev noted that all proposals by the Minsk Group so far have been rejected–and conveyed amazement at the fact that such an announcement comes from a diplomat with Minsk Group experience.
