Turkey’s Blockade Getting Old Says Oskanian

YEREVAN (PanARMENIAN.Net)–During an interview on Public TV of Armenia–Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian remarked that the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border serves primarily Turkish interests because its use of a blockade to exert pressure on Yerevan has exhausted itself.

The minister explained that Turkey’s 10-year blockade of Armenia has–in fact–proven detrimental to Azerbaijan in the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict–and in the meantime–Armenia’s economy has not suffered to the degree expected by Ankara.

At the same time–Oskanian said–he doubted that the international community’s pressure on Turkey to end the blockade would result in the opening of borders and establishment of diplomatic relations with Armenia.
