Australian Austrian and Georgian Officials Meet with Armenian Leaders

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenian president Robert Kocharian received on Friday Australia’s new ambassador to Armenia Leslie Adrian Rowe who handed over his credentials to the Armenian president. During a conversation that followed the ceremony–bilateral and other issues were discussed. Ambassador Rowe also met with Armenia’s Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian

On the same day–Kocharian received Austria’s interior minister Ernst Strasser–who is in Armenia to discuss the implementation of an Austrian regional project in the struggle against drug trafficking. Strasser and Armenian police chief Hayk Harutunian are due to sign an agreement on fighting organized crime and drug trafficking.

Georgia’s National Security Secretary Tedo Japaridze also met with President Kocharian as well FM Oskanian to discuss bilateral and regional security issues.

Armenia’s Foreign Ministry press office reported that the sides discussed expanding security cooperation to assist in strengthening regional security. Importance was attached to political negotiations on security.

The sides referred to Armenia-Turkey–Georgia-Russia relations–regulation of the Abkhazian conflict and restoration of rail service between the countries.
