83rd ARS Convention in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO–The Western Region of the Armenian Relief Society convened at the San Francisco Westin Hotel on July 10 for its 83rd annual convention. Thirty-four representatives and observers from the region’s 25 chapters attended the convention.

Official guests included Prelate Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian–the new pastor of the San Francisco Armenian community Rev. Torosian–representing the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Central Committee Vahe Bozoian–and representative of the Cristapor Gomideh Hrair Sarkisian.

ARS Central Executive (CE) Vice Chair Hasmig Derderian was present in an official capacity–while ARS CE member Anahid Meymarian participated as a delegate.

Addressing the guests were Prelate Archbishop Mardirossian–chairwoman of the San Francisco ARS Garin Chapter Olia Yenikomshian–Hriar Sarkissian–and Anahid Meymarian–while ARS Regional Executive Chairwoman Sonia Peltekian presented an overview of the region’s activities during the past year.

During the next few days–under the co-chairmanship of Ani Chalian and Annik Zindarsian–and with Armenian and English language recording secretaries Sona Madarian–Berjouhi Frenkian–Angela Sayan–Maral Nashalian–the convention reviewed in detail the region’s fiscal activities–proposed and passed by-laws for the coming year–and elected five new members to serve on the nine-member ARS Western Regional Executive Board.

Newly-elected members are Srpouhi Misserlian–Knar Avedissian–Sona Madarian–Alice Yeghiaian–and Vicky Marashlian; returning to the body are Nova Hindoyan–Astghig Tejirian–Guitarig Kocharian–and Nora Shirikian.

Hindoyan will serve as the chair of the ARS Western Regional Executive Board–Tejirian as vice-chair–Madarian as secretary–and Avedissian as treasurer. Kocharian–Marashlian–Yeghiaian–and Misserlian will serve as advisors.

The convention honored Ungerouhi Ovsanna Misserlian for her long years of service to the organization. Misserlian–a 60-year member of the ARS–was the honored guest at the convention luncheon. Her children Zereh and Yertvart Misserlian sponsored the event in her honor.
