Kocharian French Parliament’s Debr Talk Reform

PARIS (Armenpress)–On the third day of his official visit to France–Armenian president Robert Kocharian met on Thursday with the President of the French National Assembly Jean-Louis Debr to speak about the democratic process in Armenia–economic reforms and regional developmen’s.

Debr praised Armenian authorities for their commitment to constitutional reforms–while Kocharian stressed Armenia’s resolve to fulfill its commitmen’s before the Council of Europe.

Speaking about economic reform–both men’stated that with its entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO)– Armenia can implement trade policies on par with those of European countries. Kocharian noted that Armenia has been recognized by leading financial organizations and independent experts as one of the most economically liberalized post-Soviet countries.

Their talks on regional issues centered particularly on the long-lasting Mountainous Karabagh conflict. Kocharian thanked France for its involvement in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s Minsk group–mandated to help the two sides to find a mutually acceptable peace formula.

After the meeting with Debr–Kocharian visited a gallery displaying the works of the famous French painter of Armenian descent Jeansem (Hovhanes Semerdjian).

Later on in the day–Kocharian placed a wreath on the monument of the prominent Armenian composer Komitas; unveiled on April 24–2003–the 13-foot bronze statue sits in a central square in the heart of Paris.
