Armenian Tombs Again Destroyed in Krasnodar

KRASNODAR (Armenpress)–Armenian tombs at the Slovonic cemetery in Krasnodar were again desecrated on Monday evening–reported the "Erkramas" Armenian newspaper of Southern Russia. A total of eleven tombs–nine of them Armenian–were vandalized at the unguarded cemetery. Chief engineer at the Slavonic cemetery said there are no witnesses.

According to preliminary investigations–two people–whose footsteps were found in the cemetery–appeared to have perpetrated the act.

The destruction of the graves comes right before a delegation of the Union of Russian Armenia’s is scheduled to visit the area to campaign in favor of incumbent Russian President Vladimir Putin.

A similar act of vandalism was carried out at the same cemetery in April of 2002–when more than 30 Armenian tombs were destroyed. Those found guilty were released on probation.
