Armenia US Sign Economic Cooperation Action Plan

YEREVAN (Yerkir)–Armenian Minister of Finance and Economy Vardan Khachatrian and US Ambassador to Armenia John Ordway–signed an Action Plan on Tuesday–developed during the seventh meeting of the US-Armenia Task Force on Economic Cooperation held in Washington November 4-5–2003.

The Action Plan addresses the implementation of a number of new and ongoing projects and activities designed to assist in developing Armenia’s economy–by way of US assistance.

Khachatrian and Ordway evaluated progress to date on several items of the Action Plan–defining new directions and subsequent action. They detailed the Armenian Governmen’s’ Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper–emphasizing the importance of projects aimed at developing small and medium-sized enterprises.

The two also discussed US assistance to Armenia–macroeconomic policy–anti-corruption efforts–human trafficking–and money laundering–as well as investment–trade–and improvement in the customs clearing process for imports to Armenia.
