AYF Participates in Budapest Congress

YEREVAN (YERKIR)–Four members of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Youth Organization of Armenia joined representatives from over 140 countries at the 25th Congress of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY)–February 24-29–in Budapest–Hungary.

The agenda of the congress included the organization’s activities over the past two years–and plans to improve IUSY’s structure.

Along with presenting their organization’s views and positions about the items on hand–the ARF youth detailed the February 19 brutal murder of Armenian officer Gurgen Markarian by an Azeri counterpart–and called on IUSY-member organizations to condemn this and other unjust and brutal actions against Armenia’s by the Azeri government and military officials. They also asked delegates to call on their respective governmen’s to denounce politically motivated actions of the Azeri government.

The congress elected South Africa Socialist Youth representative president of the IUSY–and reelected the Italian Youth Socialist party representative secretary general.

IUSY is composed of 135 socialist–social democratic–and labor youth organizations from 100 countries throughout the world–with the goal of implementing and defending the ideals of democratic socialism.

Founded over 90 years ago–the IUSY’s activities were suspended during the two World Wars–and was re-established on September 30–1946.
