Newspapers and TV news have already advertised the opening of the "Arshag II" opera in the Bay area in the 2000-2002 opera season.
1998 was and continues to be a year devoted to raising funds for this great cultural production. January 1999–is the deadline for the one million dollars necessary to stage the opera. Approximately $500,000 has already been collected.
Several fund raising benefits have taken place in the Bay Area especially in the months of April–May and June. These benefits were organized with the generous help of Dr. Zaven and Adrine Adruni from Hillsboro–Tony Moroyan who in May helped raise almost $150,000–and others.
Culture and Arts have always been an integral part of our society. Throughout the years it has been used as a force to organize and educate the masses. It has been a method of introducing the world to the world of the Armenia’s and placing ourselves on the world’s scene.
Now Dikran Chookhajian’s "Arshag II" opera has the chance to hit the world’s stage in San Francisco. The opera will also feature Prof. Nigoghos Tahmizian’s musical piece prepared especially for Chookhajian’s masterpiece.
Tahmizian’s musical score will be in itself a great contribution to Armenian culture–and will definitely help expand the audience of "Arshag II" into the mainstream. Funds will however be necessary to make all this into reality.
