Twenty Artists and Harvest Gallery Join Forces to Support Anahid Oshagan?s Bid for Glendale City Council

GLENDALE–Twenty established and emerging local artists and Harvest Gallery in Glendale have joined forces to support Anahid "Anna" Oshagan’s bid for Glendale City Council. This collaboration kicks off with "Art for Oshagan," a silent art auction that will take place at Harvest Gallery from Friday March 4 to Sunday March 6. The grand opening reception will be held on Friday–March 4 from 6 to 10 pm. Suggested donation is $25 and will be applied toward the purchase of auction items. All proceeds will benefit Anahid Oshagan for City Council.

Oshagan announced her candidacy for the March 5 city elections last month. Her vision to bring harmony and mutual understanding to the diverse communities of Glendale–coupled with her political experience will bring a fresh new perspective and become a unifying force for all of Glendale.

Anahid’s worked as District Representative for Congressman Adam Schiff–at which time she served as the Congressman’s liaison to the City of Glendale and to other nearby communities in the 29th Congressional District.

In the City Council–Anahid will concentrate on quality of life issues. She will fight to preserve our hillsides and our clean environment; she will work to reduce the impact of traffic and ease gridlock on our streets; she will work to preserve our parks and expand our mini- parks programs where possible and support our Police Officers and Fire Fighters. Anahid will also be a leader in developing the city’s art and culture programs.

"I want to work with all communities of our wonderfully diverse city and make sure everyone is represented fairly," says Anahid Oshagan. "Art is a universal language and it is a means to bringing various segmen’s of the community together. I think this auction is a first step. I am very excited and grateful to all the artists who donated their work. I am a great supporter of the arts and I will strive to make Glendale a more vibrant place for the arts."

If elected–Anahid will be the first Armenian woman to serve on the Glendale City Council.

Anahid has a solid history of community involvement and service. She has worked to aid victims of domestic violence at Los Angeles Superior Court and mentored juvenile inmates at Camp David Gonzales. She has also taught English as a Second Language to newly arrived immigran’s–working to integrate them into the American mainstream. Recently–she coordinated and spearheaded fundraising efforts for the Millenium Armenian Children’s Vaccine Fund–a program to immunize all children in Armenia and Karabagh over the next 15 years.

As a student leader at CSUN–Anahid was instrumental in raising funds for the 1988 Armenian earthquake relief effort and worked tirelessly to raise awareness of Armenia’s bid for independence and Karabagh’s struggle for self-determination.

"Anahid is an excellent choice for the Glendale city council," says Aris Ajand–an artist and owner of Harvest Gallery. "One of the many things that make Anahid a great candidate is her background and her long-time involvement in the arts and culture of our community. This will be very beneficial to not only the Armenian community but all of Glendale. We are very happy to be doing our share to support her campaign through this auction."

Anahid was born in Armenia and immigrated to the United States with her family in 1975–settling in the Hollywood area. Her parents instilled in her the values of hard work–education and service to one’s community. She attended California State University at Northridge–earning a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Humanities–and later a law degree in two and a half years from Whittier College School of Law. She currently practices law as a non-profit attorney. Anahid and her husband–photographer Ara Oshagan–have been married for 12 years and have two children–Sebouh–5–and Adom–2.

Donation may be made to "Friends of Anahid Oshagan." Political contributions are not tax-deductable.
