Oskanian Meets with Rice other US Officials

WASHINGTON–DC (PanArmenian.net)–In his first visit to the US since the re-election of President George W. Bush–Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian met with a number of US government officials–including US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice–during his two-day visit to the nation’s capital

His meeting with Secretary of State Rice focused on the dynamic development of bilateral relations between Armenia and the US–as well as the country’s domestic situation and the democratic reform process. Rice commended Armenia’s participation in the war on terror and programs targeted for the reconstruction of Iraq.

Informing Rice on the latest developmen’s in the Karabagh conflict settlement–the two officials exchanged views on the situation in the South Caucasus and adjacent regions–as well as Armenian-Turkish relations.

The Foreign Minister also met with US National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley to discuss prospects of a peaceful settlement to the Karabagh conflict. Hadley was particularly interested in the legislative reform process in Armenia.

Meeting with members of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues–Oskanian thanked the Congressmen for consistent assistance rendered to Armenia. They reviewed issues likely to be included on the agenda of the Armenian-American Commission on Economic Cooperation.

Before his departure–he also met with representatives of the Armenian National Committee of America and the Armenian Assembly of America. Oskanian leaves for Beijing on June 11.
