(A1 Plus)–A group of several Javakhk Armenia’s attacked a customs office in the Samtskhe-Javakhk region of Georgia Sunday–apparently frustrated at rampant discrimination against Armenia’s.
Prior to the incident–Georgian authorities fired all the Armenia’s working at the customs office near the village of Zhdanovka–only to replace them with Georgians.
About a hundred of those fired gathered at different customs check points–to protest the loss of their jobs.
According to the Regnum news agency–the crowd demanded a meeting with the head of the local government. After he refused to meet them–those present attacked the customs check points.
Local residents later explained their actions were prompted by their hopeless economic and social conditions that are only compounded by corrupt officers.
Representatives of the Armenian community of Georgia have repeatedly tried to draw attention to the problems of Javakhk Armenia’s–which include inequity on all levels.
