Pasadena ANC to Honor State Senator Jack Scott

PASADENA–The Pasadena Armenian National Committee (ANC) has decided to award the prestigious 2006 ANC Community Leadership Award to State Senator Jack Scott. Senator Scott is being honored for being a longtime leader on issues impacting his Armenian American constituents in California’s 21st State Senate District.

"Senator Scott is a true friend," remarked Pasadena ANC Chairman Hovig Dimejian. "The Pasadena ANC is pleased to honor a public official who has always reached out to the Armenian American community and at the same time created a legislative track record that all his constituents–Democrats–Republicans–and Independents–can be proud of. Clearly–we are also very proud of the central role the Senator played in supporting the ANC’s initiative to create a California-Armenia Trade Office in Yerevan–Armenia."

For many Armenian Americans–Senator Scott’s signature piece of legislation was Senate Bill 1657–which was passed in 2002 and established a California international trade and investment office in the Republic of Armenia. The signing of Senate Bill 1657 in 2002 was the culmination of a three-year grassroots effort by over ten local ANC chapters to establish formal trade relations between the Republic of Armenia and California. The California Armenia Trade Office is presently operating and seeking to enhance the economies of both the State of California and the Republic of Armenia.

"The establishment of the trade office initiates a new era in the way California does business with overseas markets. It is the first time California has ventured into the former Soviet Union with an official trade presence and there is no better place to establish that than in the Republic of Armenia–a fast growing economy with strong ties to California and on the traditional crossroads of the trade routes where East meets West," said Steven J. Dadaian–Chairman of the ANCA-WR at the time that Senator Scott’s bill–SB 1657–was passed.

Senator Scott will receive the ANC Community Leadership Award at an event to be held at the Pasadena Armenian Community Center at 5:00 PM on February 26–2006. Ms. Suzanne Douzmanian–a longtime Pasadena ANC supporter–will serve as the Mistress of Ceremonies for this special event. The Pasadena Armenian Center is located at 740 East Washington Boulevard. To RSVP for this special event please call (626) 798-1098 ext. 110.

The Pasadena ANC is part of the largest and most influential Armenian American grassroots political organization. Working in coordination with a network of offices–chapters–and supporters throughout the United States and affiliated organizations around the world–the Pasadena ANC actively advances the concerns of the Armenian American community on a broad range of issues.
