YEREVAN (PanArmenian)–As part of the "Year of Armenia" activities in France, 40 cross-stones (khatchcars) will be exhibited at the Louvre in Paris for the first time in history, announced Armenian presidential advisor Vigen Sargsyan during a press conference Tuesday. He also discussed exhibits at the Paris National Picture Gallery that are scheduled to take place in France to highlight artists such as Ayvazovsky, Gorky, Saryan and others. Sargsyan also said that the Armenian Philharmonic and the Chamber Orchestras will also perform. The "Year of Armenia" in France kicked off on September 21 and will continue until July 14, bridging the two countries’ independence days. This celebration will be significant, since French president Jacques Chirac will make an official state visit to Armenia, becoming the first Western head of state to visit Armenia. On September 30 Armenia’s will have an opportunity will have an opportunity to hear legendary Armenian singer Charles Aznavour at a live performance in Yerevan’s Republic Square. He and other singers who are scheduled to arrive from France will herald the beginning of the "Year of Armenia" in France. Presidents of France and Armenia Jacques Chirac and Robert Kocharian are also expected to attend. Charles Aznavour gave his first concert in Armenia in 1964 and following a long pause he returned to Armenia in February 1989 to tour the earthquake ravaged parts of Armenia. Aznavour also partnered with Horizon Television in Los Angeles to record a star-studded single, the profits from which were dedicated to earthquake relief efforts. During his visit to Armenia in 2001 on the occasion of the 1700th anniversary of adoption of Christianity as a state religion, he performed his well-known song "Ave Maria" at Dzidzernagapert during a special ceremony commemorating the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
