GLENDALE–A standing-room-only crowd of over 250 people was on hand to join Greg Krikorian as he officially announced his candidacy for the Glendale City Council. Krikorian, a Glendale business owner, homeowner and six-year Member of Glendale’s Board of Education, announced his candidacy at his official campaign kick-off event held at the Oakmont Country Club. Among the local dignitaries attending was special guest speaker L.A. County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, an early supporter of Greg Krikorian’s candidacy who was introduced by former Glendale Mayor Larry Zarian. "Over the last 15 years I have known Greg to be an active community leader dedicated to improving educational opportunities for Glendale school children," said Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich. "A strong advocate for a safe, clean and prosperous city, Greg is an effective leader who will be a valuable addition to the Glendale City Council." Also on hand to show their support for Greg Krikorian were current City Council Members from neighboring cities, Burbank and Pasadena, Marcia Ramos and Chris Holden, as well as Glendale City Council Bob Yousefian. Crescenta Valley Town Council members, Steve Pierce, Sharon Hales, Krista Smiley and Charles Beatty were also in attendance, as were former Glendale City Council members, Mary Ann Plummly and Rick Reyes and current GUSD School Board President, Chakib Sambar. Former Glendale Mayor Larry Zarian was on hand and spoke about Greg Krikorian’s growth in the community after moving to Glendale almost twenty years ago from Michigan and his dedication to family values and community. Among the goals Greg Krikorian has is to unify all sectors of Glendale from Adams Hill to the Montrose/La Crescenta Foothill region so that everyone is working together in a positive collaboration that benefits all of the city’s residents. He also expressed a desire to see Glendale follow the existing Hillside and other Zoning Ordinances more closely, while respecting individual property rights, and to work on alleviating increasing traffic congestion. Restoring Glendale’s business economy is also on Greg Krikorian’s "to-do list." Glendale’s commercial vacancy rate has jumped to being the highest in L.A. County, and we’ve lost over 3,000 jobs as a result. If not addressed, this could have a highly negative impact on Glendale’s ability to meet future financial obligations for maintaining our infrastructure and overall quality of life" noted the candidate. As Glendale continues to grow, Krikorian said he is committed to finding solutions for the city’s future challenges, such as those that will arise during implementation of the downtown strategic plan. He also made clear his desire to make sure that both the Glendale Galleria benefit from the coming Americana development. Born and raised in Hartford Connecticut, Greg Krikorian moved to Glendale in 1989. He and wife Christine have five young children, all attending Glendale public schools. As co-owner of Business Life and Senior Living magazines, and founder of Krikorian Marketing Group, Inc., he has been heavily involved in local community affairs since moving here. Participation in community service by way of Kiwanis, the PTA, Verdugo Hills Boy Scouts, AYSO Soccer, Jewel City Little League, the Chamber of Commerce and other organizations is important to Krikorian. He also actively promotes educational and employment opportunities for everyone from students to seniors to those with disabilities. Putting it all in perspective, "The people of Glendale have been so kind to our family and I have made it a big part of my life to give back in return. Where there are needs that I can help alleviate, I want to do as much as I can to make Glendale an even better place to live and work, for the sake of all our children, including my own" said Krikorian.
