GCC Becomes Sister College with Ghapan Institution

GLENDALE–A resolution declaring Glendale Community College as a sister institution with Ghapan State Engineering College was approved Monday by GCC Board of Trustees. The city of Ghapan and the city of Glendale formed a sister city association in 2002. In 2003, several civic and business representatives from Glendale, including two Glendale Community College board members, Dr. Armine Hacopian, and Ara Najarian, as well as members of the GCC administration, visited Ghapan. The GCC board members and administrators met with administrators of Ghapan State Engineering College. Strong cultural ties exist between the Armenian-American community in Glendale and the people of the Republic of Armenia. The sister institution relationship will foster mutually beneficial opportunities for cultural, student and faculty exchange. GCC is committed to providing assistance to institutions of higher learning, especially those serving communities that are financially less fortunate. Board of Trustees President Dr. Armine Hacopian said of the Sister Institution Association, "we are delighted to be of service to the students of Ghapan State Engineering College. We intend to share our expertise with administration and faculty through various methods, and hope to learn much from this mutually valuable endeavor." Artin Manoukian, President of Glendale-Ghapan Sister City Association, thanked the Board and the staff and stressed the importance of such a resolution by stating that it will not only jumpstart the educational exchange between the two institutions, but it will also enhance the existing ties between the two communities.
