ICRC Negotiates With Prisoner Azeri Soldier His Repatriation

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–A spokesman for the Armenian branch of the International Committee of Red Cross said its representatives were having regular meetings with an Azeri soldier who willingly crossed the westernmost section of the Armenian-Azeri border near the town of Ijevan last Sunday to surrender to Armenian forces deployed there. The Azeri soldier, who identified himself as Samed Mamedov, claimed to have been systematically mistreated and humiliated by his Azerbaijani commanders. The spokesman’said the ICRC would repatriate the Azeri soldier only if he agrees to go back on his own will. Samed Mamedov surrendered to Armenian troops just one day after another Azeri soldier, who reportedly crossed into Armenian-controlled territory east of Nagorno-Karabakh earlier this month, was handed back to the Azerbaijani side with the help of the International Committee of the Red Cross
