Whereabouts of Repatriated Azeri Soldier Are Unknown

BAKU (Armenpress)–The mother of a 19 year-old Azeri soldier, Vusal Garachaev, who reportedly had crossed into Armenian-controlled territory east of Nagorno-Karabakh earlier this month, citing mistreatment by his officers and was handed back to the Azerbaijani side with the help of the International Committee of the Red Cross on December 23, was quoted by Azerbaijani APA news agency as saying that she had no information about her son’s whereabouts. She said, she was informed by a state commission dealing with prisoners of war and hostages that her son had been handed back to Azeri defense authorities. Karabakh president Arkady Ghoukasian said on December 18 that Garachaev was reluctant to return home for fear of retribution.
