ARF Outlines Parliamentary Election Strategy

YEREVAN (Yerkir)–The Armenian Revolutionary Federation will present its own platform in the upcoming parliamentary election, for which the party’s leaders believe they will have support from voters, ARF Bureau chairman Hrant Markarian Monday said at a news conference. The ARF leader announced that the ARF’s slate candidates will be around 100, with the number of non-party members running on the ARF ticket to be "reduced to a minimum. "The party’s list of candidates in the parliamentary election will include about 100 people, with the number of those who are not members of the party to be reduced to minimum. Markarian said the ARF roster will have more women represented on it. Markarian stressed that the party’s goal was to increase the ARF’s presence, thus its ideology, in parliament. He said the time had come to make a serious choice. "It should be realized that today’s election would define the quality of the country’s leadership for the next four years," said Markarian, explaining that while the economic conditions in the country had not improved, the voters understood that elections were meant to resolve future issues. He stressed that the ARF was the party that would be able to resolve those critical socio-economic issues facing the country. "I think that today, the situation is such that even those who not like us, will vote for us," said Markarian. "There are many advantages, because no one in the ARF follows anyone else, no one can impose its opinion to others in this organization. This organization is a living and breathing structure, comprising those from the middle and deprived classes. This organization knows how to lead its leadership, it knows how to restrain its leadership, and knows how to hold its leadership accountable. We cannot allow us such things because our ran’s will not allow us do that."
