Gor and Friends at Barnsdall Gallery Theatre

An incredible mix of musicians will join Gor Mkhitarian on April 7 Barnsdall Gallery Theatre in Hollywood, in what he dubs an "Armenian Folklore" show. The show is a release concert for Gor’s latest CD "Acoustic Folklore", a limited edition mini album of re-recorded and re-mastered Armenian traditional folk songs such as Gakavik and Shogher Jan. As experimental musician, Gor explains he has always wanted to collaborate with musicians who have various approaches to contemporary Armenian Music. "We are starting the show with two guitars; the additional musicians will gradually join in to develop the performance. One of Gor’s oldest and greatest musical allies, Aaron Stayman, will be joining him from Boston. "He is a longtime collaborator, and has had the greatest overall influence on my music," explains Gor. Stayman, who is featured on all four of Gor’s albums playing banjo, guitar and singing, is an inspirational guitar and banjo master. "Without him, my music wouldn’t be the same." Joining Gor and Aaron will be: – JAY DEAN has been performing live for over twenty years, with a guitar style forged in the era of classic rock guitar heroes, tempered with jazz and country flavors. He regularly plays with Gor, as well as rock band The Electric Prunes (supporting Iggy Pop, The New York Dolls, The Romantics) – JEERO HABESHIAN (drummer/percussionist) has been playing with Gor since his move to LA. Jeero is the former drummer of the band Red Snow. – ARA DABANDJIAN is a multi-instrumentalist musician, producer, composer who plays mostly accordion with Gor. He can be heard on Gor’s "Episode,"GOR" and "Acoustic Folklore" CDs – VAROUJAN HOVAKIMYAN is a bassist and the newest member of the band. He also plays the violin, and is a graphic designer, artist, filmmaker. – ERWIN KHACHIKIAN has been with the band mostly as a studio musician playing keyboard. He is of the biggest producers and arrangers in the Persian and Persian-Armenian music industry. He co-produced and arranged Gor’s English language album "GOR." – JIVAN GASPARYAN, JR. (duduk) is the Gran’son of Jivan Gasparyan, and is also a very talented musician like his grandfather. Special guest for two songs.
