Basque Parliament Recognizes Genocide

VITORIA-GASTEIZ, SpainThe Basque parliament last week passed a resolution commemorating the Armenian Genocide and calling on Turkey to face its past and recognize the Genocide. The resolution, which was sent to the Armenian and Turkish parliamen’s, as well as delivered to the diplomatic missions of the two countries, also affirmed the 1987 resolution by the European Commission recognizing the Genocide as it has been defined in the United Nations Convention on Genocide and Human Rights. The resolution also condemned Turkey for continuously denying the Genocide for persecutingthrough its criminal codeindividuals who defend and the veracity of the Genocide. The Basque parliament also condemned Turkeys economic blockade of Armenia and defended EUs deman’s that its member states must come to terms with their historical pasts and urged Turkey and Armenia to normalize relations.
