YEREVAN (Armenpress)–President Robert Kocharian met Tuesday with Ambassador John J. Danilovich, CEO of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, who arrived in Armenia for official opening of the Millennium Challenge Account’sArmenia (MCA’sArmenia) Yerevan office.
President Kocharian was quoted by his press office as saying that the programs implemented jointly by the MCC with the Armenian government to deepen reforms and resolve a number of pressing problems are of key significance for the country.
Kocharian also said that one of his administration’s priorities was to eliminate inequality between the capital city Yerevan and regions beyond it, adding that in that sense the government’s expectation from the MCC are great.
John Danilovich expressed his pleasure with the high level bilateral cooperation.
Kocharian for his part said effective reforms are the guarantee of steadfast development, adding also that the government has been working for years to implant this idea among the society.
He said the outcome of May 12 parliamentary elections allow the government to proceed with this course.
Danilovich said the U.S. Government monitored with great interest the parliamentary elections of May 12 in Armenia and the general consensus was that these elections were an improvement compared to previous polls, which is obviously the trend that the U.S. wanted to see.
Kocharian said all reports of breaches and inaccuracies were examined carefully and members of some precinct commissions, responsible for them were punished.
