Karabakh CEC Registers Presidential Candidates

STEPANAKERT (KarabakhOpen)–The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Central Election Commission Thursday registered National Assembly member Armen Abgaryan, Artsakh State University professor Vanya Avanesyan, Deputy Foreign Minister Masis Mailyan, leader of the Communist Party Hrant Melkumyan, Head of the Natioanl Security Service Bako Sahakyan as presidential candidates.
All candidates, with the exception of Hrant Melkumyan, were nominated on public initiative.
The election campaign will kick off on June 20. CEC President Sergey Nasibyan said 2007 precincts have already been formed, only one of which will be situated outside Karabakh at the country’s Permanent Representation in Armenia. The number of eligible voters is 90,000.
Nasibyan explained that according to the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Electoral Code, all the Karabakh citizens can represent a candidate and campaign for them, except members of the judicial branch, the police, defense ministry officials, the National Security Service, the Office of the Public Prosecutor, the tax agency, military personnel, members of electoral commissions, heads of the state mass media and foreigners. Federal workers are allowed to campaign, but not during work house.
