CoE Secretary General Says Karabakh Conflict Difficult to Solve Before Elections

YEREVAN (Yerkir)–There is little possibility of settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict before the 2008 Presidential elections in Armenia and Azerbaijan, said Council of Europe Secretary General Terry Davis on Tuesday.
“I would be happy to see the Nagorno Karabakh conflict resolved this week rather than till the yearend. But reality says it’s hardly possible before elections,” said Davis. “Parliamentary and presidential elections are not a perfect time for negotiations,” he added.
“But months and years pass without resolution. It works against the interests of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh,” reported the Trend news agency.
