Russian Armenian Donates 14th Century Manuscripts to Matenadaran

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Hrant Poghosian, a Moscow-based Armenian, donated Monday a 14-th century Armenian language Bible to the Matendaran Institute of Old Manuscripts.
First Lady. Bella Kocharian, Education and Science Minister Levon Mkrtchian and Culture <inister Hasmik Poghosian were in Matendaran to commend the patron of art.
The Executive Director of Matenadaran Hrachya Tamrazian commended the donation, saying it was a unique man’script with unique miniatures.
The man’script was written in 1399 and belonged to the Prosyhan princely clan, known for their huge contribution to Armenian arts and architecture.
The man’script had been kept at Saint John-Paul Church in Yerevan until it was destroyed in 1937. The man’script was miraculously saved and passed from one hand to another until three Moscow Armenia’s purchased it.
"There is an old man’script in Los Angeles, and the owner wants to sell it at $130,000. I think it will soon join the other man’scripts here in Matenadaran," said Poghosian who was awarded the Saint Mesrop order of Matenadaran Monday.
