GLENDALE–The Armenian Cultural Foundation hosted a groundbreaking ceremony Sunday for its Youth Center which has been in the planning stages since 2004 and is adjacent to Glendale St. Mary’s Church, has received the necessary permits from City of Glendale.

Present at the event were Western Prelate Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Armenian presidential candidate and Armenian Revolutionary Federation Bureau member Vahan Hovannesian, ARF Bureau member Vicken Hovspeian, ARF Western US Central Committee chairman Avedik Izmirlian, California State Assemblymember Paul Krikorian, Glendale Mayor Ara Najarian, Glendale Community College Board member Vahe Proomian, as well as community organizational representatives.

ACF Glendale chapter believes that the youth center will go a long way in addressing the critical needs of the Armenian youth in the city and will serve as a meeting place for Armenian youth for after-school activities and other programs.

“There were several obstacles in the way bringing this project to fruition,” said Neshan Peroomian, the building construction committee president adding there were further obstacles in constructing this building in Glendale, given its contemporary architectural design and structure.

Peroomian added, however, the amenities in the building will ensure that the center will truly become a valuable addition for the youth of Glendale.

Complete coverage of the youth center opening will be feature in a future edition of Asbarez.
