Council of Europe Mission to Visit Nakhichevan if Azerbaijan Allows

YEREVAN (Armradio)–If Azerbaijan does not pose new obstacles, the fact-finding mission of the Council of Europe, charged with investigating the state of cultural monumen’s in the region, will arrive in the region at the beginning of the year, said Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanain during a press conference Tuesday in Yerevan. Oskanian noted that the question was at the core of his meeting with CoE Secretary General Terry Davis in Strasbourg on December 7.
Oskanian said that he was interested in the mission’s visit to Nakhichevan. He also noted that Armenia has allowed the CoE mission to carry out its investigations anywhere in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.
"There is absolutely no obstacle on the part of Armenia," he added. "We have presented the list of the monumen’s we would like to be observed or the photos of the places where the khachkars and monumen’s have been destroyed."
"If Azerbaijan poses no new obstacles, the visit will take place in the first quarter of next year," Oskanian concluded.
The visit has already been delayed due to difficulties created by Azerbaijan.
