ARF Youth Organization Takes Part in IUSY Congress

YEREVAN (Yerkir)-Representatives of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Youth Organization, from Jan. 25 to 27, took part in 27th Congress of the International Union of Socialist Youth in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic, announced the ARF Bureau Youth Office.
Vatche Tovmassian of the Western US and Harutiun Manougian of Canada represented the ARF Youth Organization at the congress, where the delegation presented a resolution on the Karabakh conflict resolution issue.
Luis Ayala, the Secretary General of Socialist International, convened the congress with opening remarks. The outgoing IUSY board presented a report of activities.
The ARF Youth Organization is a full member of IUSY with two votes, but due to a gender imbalance provision, the delegation was allowed one vote. The ARF Youth delegation voted for Dmitri Tskidishvili, a candidate it supported from the Southern Caucasus region.
The resolution presented by the delegation was deferred to the Black Sea Regional Cooperation Council for review.
At the conclusion of the congress, Jacinda Ardern of New Zealand was elected President and Yvonne O’Callaghan was re-elected as Secretary General.
The IUSY is the youth affiliate of the Socialist International. The IUSY is represented 143 socialist, social-democratic, labor and student organizations from 100 countries.
