Azerbaijan Expects New Armenian Leadership to Recognize Territorial Integrity

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Official Baku indicated today it expects Armenia’s new leadership to recognize the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and take steps towards peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict.
A deputy foreign minister of Azerbaijan, Araz Azimov, said in an interview with ATV that Azerbaijan expects Armenia’s leadership to act within the boundaries of international norms.
"In order to resolve the conflict Armenia will have to take measures and realize that there is no alternative to peace with Azerbaijan and for that it must in the first place recognize its territorial integrity," Azimov was quoted as saying.
In a reference to Kosovo’s declaration of independence he said it runs counter to international norms and can not set a precedent for Nagorno-Karabakh.
"If Armenia recognizes Kosovo that will become another step against international law. But such a move would not surprise me much, but that would cause problems for Armenia and not for Azerbaijan,’ he said."
