Dialogue with Ter-Petrosian Unlikely, Says Presidential Spokesman

(Armradio)–There is currently no possibility for a dialogue between former President Levon Ter-Petrosian and the government, Armenian Presidential spokesman Viktor Soghomonyan told a press conference in Yerevan Tuesday.
"The possibility for dialogue was there before and right after the elections but Ter-Petrosian’s staff rejected any possibility of a compromise or talks," he explained. "After what happened in Yerevan on March 1, I do not see a possibility of a dialogue. I do not imagine what sort of dialogue one can have with a person who allowed 30 of his supporters to beat one policeman," he added.
"Levon Ter-Petrosian and the members of his team should realize that they bear complete responsibility for everything that happened in Yerevan on March," Soghomonyan stressed.
"All the organizers, instigators and executors of the unrest will be punished to the full severity of the law", Soghomonyan said as he answered questions on the possibility of bringing Levon Ter-Petrosian up on charges.
Soghomonyan said that the resolving the current crisis and ending the state of emergency is in the interests of all the citizens of Armenia. Ending the state of emergency before the 20 days will depend on the development of the current situation, he said.
The presidential spokesman also reiterated the government’s initial tally of people who died as a result of Saturday’s unrest. He said that any claims that the government is underreporting the figure is a blatant lie.
There have been no violations of the state of emergency until now and the situation is fully under control, he told reporters. The agencies overseeing the situation will periodically provide journalists with information, he added.
