Prosecutors End Probe Into Election Fraud Case in Gavar

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Prosecutors have completed their investigation into an election rigging case involving Hripsime Haytian, chairman of 22/21 precinct election commission in the town of Gavar, the administrative center of Gegharkunik province.
Haytian is suspected of abusing her position to falsify polling results at her precinct, Sona Truzian, a spokeswoman for the Office of the Prosecutor-General told Armenpress.
Truzian said prosecutors have established that Haytian tampered with official vote counts after the polls. Truzian further noted that Haytian did so at the request of two proxies of former president Levon Ter-Petrosian.
According to Truzian, the violation occurred after the ballots were sent to the territorial election commission.
As a result of Haytian’s interference, Ter-Petrosian tally was raised from the original 41 votes to 600. The ballot count for the other candidates was also falsified in order to mask the possibility of fraud, she explained.
Haytian also increased the recorded number of voters who cast their ballots from 1,069 to 1,766. The case will be heard by a court in Gavar.
